How it works

The clock counts to midnight at the start of 25 December in your own time zone, using your device's clock. On Christmas Day it switches to a greeting, and on Boxing Day it starts counting to next year.

A 'sleep' counts the nights left, with the night of 24 December as the last. Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day, so it falls between 27 November and 3 December.

The most useful number for planning is probably the weekends left: those are the real working days for shopping, wrapping, the food order and the tidy-up.

Questions

How many sleeps until Christmas?

The big number above, updated live. The night of 24 December is the last sleep.

When does Advent start this year?

It's shown in the list under the clock: the Sunday four weeks before Christmas Day.

Does it use my time zone?

Yes, your device's clock and time zone.

What should I be doing by when?

A common rhythm is gifts bought by the start of December, cards posted by the second week, the food order placed, and the freezer space cleared before the final week. The countdown planner below breaks it into weeks.

Get Christmas under control

The Christmas Countdown Planner turns the weeks between now and the day into eight weekly to-do lists starting in November, to print on A4 or US Letter. The Christmas Planner Bundle adds a budget spreadsheet, a dinner timeline and a Secret Santa kit.
